He is the WaterNet Executive Management, as the Head of WaterNet Secretariat he oversees the implementation of capacity building activities of this SADC subsidiary institution across the 16 countries. He has an Associate Professorship position with the University of Lubumbashi and lectures in two other Universities in the SADC region. Prof Kileshye Onema is the current representative of the African Continent for the programmatic cooperation between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Royal Netherlands (DUPC) and IHE Delft. In the recent past, he led the implementation of transdisciplinary research projects that focus amongst others on water governance, Climate change, Agricultural land and water management for poverty alleviation and Improved Drought Early Warning and Forecasting for adaptation and preparedness in Africa. He holds a PhD from the School of Civil and Built Environment of the University Of Witwatersrand.
