Anthony Turton, Professor, University of Free State

Anthony Turton holds a DPhil in Transboundary Water Resource Management from the University of Pretoria and is a Professor at the Centre for Environmental Management at the University of Free State, editor of Water Policy, the official journal of the World Water Council, and he serves on the board of various publishing houses and commercial entities.  He is the strategic advisor for an NGO called Water Shortage SA that is trying to improve governance by strengthening the regulatory process and restoring the rule of law by holding delinquent officials personally accountable for maladministration. He is a founding member of the Business Water Chamber, an organ of the Public Private Growth Initiative (PPGI) that brings the private sector and government together in making the South African water sector investable. He is deeply involved in the development of technologies including constructed wetland systems and the nano-engineering of calcium for the reduction of limescale in industrial processes.
