Dr Esther Callcott is a Medical Biochemist and Veterinary Nurse with extensive experience across both human and veterinary medicine. She completed a Bachelor of Medical Science with Honours in 2009 alongside a Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing and has 15 years of clinical experience in general practice and specialist veterinary clinics. As Course Director and Head of Discipline for Veterinary Technology at Charles Sturt University, Dr Callcott oversees the academic operations, curriculum design, and external partnerships of the Bachelor of Veterinary Technology.  She leads a team of academics dedicated to providing a student-centred program that produces industry-ready veterinary technologists with strong day-one clinical competencies. Dr Callcott’s scholarship in teaching focuses on the development and application of veterinary clinical simulation models across internal medicine, diagnostics and animal welfare, with an emphasis on improving learning outcomes and enhancing clinical skill acquisition. Holding a PhD in Medical Biochemistry, Dr Callcott’s research explores natural therapeutics, medicinal biochemistry, and biodiscovery, with applications spanning across human and animal health in alignment with One Health principles. Her work includes laboratory and clinical trial studies in biochemistry and translational medicine, and industry-based veterinary research. She leads an active research group comprising of post-doctoral fellows, PhD candidates, Master’s students, and Honours researchers. She maintains an established record of peer-reviewed publications across both veterinary and biomedical science. Dr Callcott is a committed contributor to the veterinary profession. She is an active contributor to the profession through roles within the VNCA and other industry-based groups for promotion of Veterinary Nurses and Technologists in Higher Education.
