Mike Childs has worked at Friends of the Earth for almost 30 years on a range of issues, from factory pollution, to recycling, to climate change. He led the team that ran the successful campaign for the Climate Change Act, and supported sister Friends of the Earth groups across Europe who ran similar campaigns. For the last 5 years he has been the Head of Science, Policy & Research for the organisation. Most recently he has been leading research into why the Department of Transport in the UK has presided over a 10% increase in greenhouse emissions from transport since 1990 (when you include international aviation and shipping emissions). The organisation has concluded the DfT has gone rogue on climate change and needs to be put into ‘special measures’.
