In December 2018, EvoEnergy were appointed to erect a solar carport and cycle shelter at the British Antarctic Survey (BAS) in Cambridge. The client was driven by meeting sustainable development goals, creating a more pleasant, safe place to park, expand and secure their cycling facilities and implement Electric Vehicle charging points to encourage staff uptake of electric vehicles. EvoEnergy’s simple Y shaped designs won over other proposals tendered as solutions. The project consists of 4 Y shaped car ports and a bike shed, the system power size is 219kWp, EvoEnergy installed Trina TSM 275 panels. Along with the solar installation 1 x 7kW twin column PodPoint EV charging points was installed. Please download the nomination document for more detail and supporting evidence. This project is a clear example of the solar technology able to suit an environment where any other source of energy could not be implemented and the ability of collaboration between technical and financial teams to find a solution to all the different limitations that were seen as a threat to the project. It will make use of a land otherwise useless, it will provide a significant amount of jobs, it will improve security of the gas network and will give the solar sector an example of a different solution when it comes to financial optimisation with private wires. Yorkshire Water has ambitious plans to move its head office site to Carbon Neutrality. As part of the works, Watt Energy Saver was asked to review the Solar potential for the site. Our appraisal works involved developing a detailed, scaled 3D model of the site which enabled us to accurate space plan the site and undertake industry-leading accuracy on shading analysis. Once the site's potential was understood, we moved to review the sites electricity demand. We then set about understanding the delivery of the proposed PV arrays. The critical nature within some of the buildings required close design details. From mounting selection to the Data Centre, to access to the call centre. All buildings were appraised as part of the works with Yorkshire Waters project management team, CBRE. Following several design reviews of the 3D model and on-site we selected the first building for deployment. Please download the nomination document for more detail and supporting evidence.
