Bjorn Sturmberg, Research Leader, Australian National University

Dr Bjorn Sturmberg is a Senior Research Fellow in the Battery Storage and Grid Integration Program at The Australian National University.

He holds a PhD from The University of Sydney, where his research on nanostructures that improve the efficiency of solar cells earnt him a scholarship from the Australian Renewable Energy Agency. He is passionate about open source science and during his PhD and postdoc at Macquarie University was the lead developer of multiple software packages that are now used in research groups internationally.

He is commitment to a just energy transition and is the founder of the social enterprise SunTenants that makes solar work for rental properties, for which he received a Myer Innovation Fellowship. He also spearheaded the Stucco Solar + Storage project which, in an Australian first, transformed an apartment building into a solar and storage powered microgrid and halved the low income residents bills.
