An introduction to Microgrids

The course provides the definition, components (including monitoring and communications), different classifications of microgrids. The course also provides the role of microgrids including their relevance to the electricity network, how microgrids can be incorporated into the electricity network and what are the benefits of having microgrids. Finally, the course touches on micro grid implementation including when to use microgrids versus Stand Alone Power Systems (SAPS) versus Virtual Power Plants (VPPs) versus embedded networks, which standards to follow, application process and case studies.

The course is relevant for installers, engineers, project developers, homeowners, site managers, and other non-technical people connected with the industry who would want to acquaint themselves with operation, mechanics, and regulatory framework of microgrids.
