Installer Training University Workshops

Day 1 Workshops (1 May 2024):

Integrating Lithium Batteries Into Legacy Systems

30 CPD Points

(11 am - 12:30pm)

Trainer: Simon Ceglinski, Technical Support and Projects Manager, PowerPlus

This training aims to provide participants with an understanding of legacy battery systems, equipping them with the knowledge and skills necessary to add new, modern lithium batteries to these systems effectively.

Participants will delve into the historical evolution of the battery industry, explore common legacy equipment, and gain insights into the features and idiosyncrasies of these systems.

The course will also guide participants through practical aspects of fault finding, reprogramming, and assessing the compatibility of modern batteries with existing systems.

Commercial EV Charger infrastructure

20 CPD Points

(1:15pm - 2:15pm)

Trainer: Chris Martell, Managing Director, GSES

This course provides a high level guide to procurement of commercial and industrial EV charging infrastructure.  The course provides students with an appreciation for the complexities involved in deciding which charger type, how many chargers and how to install chargers in different facilities including shopping malls, strata blocks, office spaces, etc.

Rail-less Revolution: S-5!

10 CPD Points

(2:30pm - 3:30pm)

Trainer: Bernie Dombroski, Managing Director, Solar Partners NZ (S-5!)

This dynamic 60-minute training offers insights into the worldwide rail-less revolution for attaching anything to metal roofs in commercial and residential settings. Learn how rails offer only 12.11% contact with solar modules and roof. 87.9% of the rail is used for earthing and cable control, resulting in unnecessary weight and cost. Direct-attach systems like S-5! PVKit provide 100% contact with modules and roof, eliminating waste and allowing scalability for challenging loads. With no screw lines limiting layout, they maximize rooftop yield efficiently.

Electric vehicle charging course

(3:45pm - 4:45pm)

Trainer: Bill Gammon, Training Co-ordinator, SkillBuild Training

1. The history of EV charging courses in Australia-none apart from what we have been doing since 2018 although VIC has just trialled a course

2. The plug wars – Type 1,2 ,CHAdeMO and CCS2

3. AC charging at home and DC fast charging – the difference

4. Why solar and EVs are made for each other – charge for free

5. Fleet solutions and charge points so people pay for their charging

6. Vehicle to home – our Qasar Wallbox with our Nissan Leaf in Albury

7. Vehicle to grid- a furphy and the Networks won’t allow it

8. Installation practices

9. Maintenance and fault finding for chargers for electricians using the Fluke tester and our breakout box
