The Energy and Water Sector Education and Training Authority (EWSETA) is one of 21 SETAs established in terms of Section 9 of the Skills Development Act, 97 of 1998, as amended and reports to the Minister of the Department of Higher Education, Science and Technology. Our mandate is to anticipate, build and manage the skills development and training needs of the energy and water services sectors through strategic skills planning within the context of the National Development Plan, as well as the National Skills Development Plan 2030 that will be implemented as from 1 April 2020.
To deliver on our mandate, we are required to:
• Register and establish learning programmes
• Approve Workplace Skills Plans (WSPs) and Annual Training Reports (ATRs)
• Disburse mandatory grants to levy-paying employers and discretionary grants to employers, skills development providers, public education and training institutions, learners, NGO’s, CBO’s, Cooperatives and worker initiated programmes
• Promote learnerships, internships, apprenticeships and other training programmes
