David Ferrand is the Director of FSD Kenya. In the twelve years since its inception FSD Kenya has worked closely with many of the leading participants in the field in Kenya including policymakers, regulators, retail financial institutions, industry associations and business service providers. FSD was founded by the UK’s Department for International Development (DFID) and its current core funders are the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA).
David has been engaged in work on financial inclusion and small and medium enterprise (SME) development since 1993. Prior to his current role he was financial sector specialist for DFID in the Eastern Africa region. This encompassed activities from policy analysis and strategy development to programme design, management and implementation. He has also consulted on financial inclusion. In his earlier career he trained and worked as a banker. Experience included a period in Kenya as a lending manager dealing primarily with SMEs..
