Professor Martin Innes is Director of the Crime and Security Research Institute, and Universities’ Police Science Institute at Cardiff University. His research has been highly influential across policy, practitioner and academic communities, both nationally and internationally.

He is author of the books: ‘Signal Crimes’ (2014, OUP)  ‘Investigating Murder’ (2003, OUP) and ‘Understanding Social Control (2003, Open University Press), as well as numerous scholarly articles. His next book on Neighbourhood Policing will be published in 2019 by Oxford University Press.

Current and recent research includes studies of: how disinformation works; social reactions to terrorism and innovations in counter-terrorism policing; and understanding the impacts of new technologies on the police. As part of the latter strand of work, he recently led the team that completed the first independent academic evaluation of Automated Facial Recognition in policing.
