Security Document World - Day 2: Efficient, secure and effective border checkpoints
"Interoperability testing for eMRTDs: where are we?"
Last year we presented the results of the interoperability test event help in Ispra in 2017 which saw participants from EU and outside EU. The event included a subset of the conformity tests specified by ICAO as well as cross-over testing aimed at testing documents with inspection systems and vice-versa. Conformity test results indicated, at least for the test cases which were covered by the test, that implementations are very reliable and very low error rates. However, cross-over tests indicated that there is still some work to do on the side of the inspection systems, as well as on the side of the PKI objects, i.e. the certificates which are at the basis for the validation of the security measures.
In addition, testing and current test specifications address only the electronic component of an eMRTD, while an overall test for compliance with the specifications should include other aspects which are equally important for interoperability, such as the physical security measures and the biometrics. In this presentation, Antonia will give an update on the current interoperability test activities of the Joint Research Centre of the European Commission.
