Roger Hunter | Vice President Digital Businesses
Royal Dutch Shell

Roger Hunter, Vice President Digital Businesses, Royal Dutch Shell

Roger is from Yorkshire in the north of England. He graduated with a Masters in Electronic and Electric Engineering from Birmingham University and joined Shell in 1998. Since then he has worked in a
number of technical, business development and strategy roles. In his current assignment, Roger leads a global team of new business and technical specialists out of London, The Hague, San Francisco
and Singapore who seek out business opportunities based on digital solutions to current and future customer needs. These are derived from new challenges presented by future energy and mobility services like:
living in a connected home or travelling by autonomous or electric vehicle.

As Vice President of the Digital Businesses unit within Shell’s New Energies business, Roger is accountable for growing this portfolio of digital start-ups which incubate these opportunities to either be standalone entities or integrated into the Shell portfolio of service offerings. The businesses operate in various stages of their evolution in London, Manchester, Los Angeles, New York, Chicago,
Toronto, Manila and others. Roger serves as the Board Chair for two early stage digital start-ups, FarePilot Ltd and Wonderbill Ltd and sits on the board of Connected Freight - a digital start-up in Singapore - as well as Shell New Energies Ltd itself.

Before starting up this unit in 2016, Roger lead Shell’s Alternative Energy and Fuels Strategy team focussing on the future of transport: looking at future mobility transition, second generation biofuels,
hydrogen mobility and other new technologies. Roger believes this role was the perfect preparation for his “pivot” into the digital space!

Earlier in his career Roger held various commercial and technical leadership roles at Shell, including Downstream New Business Development, Fuel Supply Chain Strategy and Upstream Engineering. He was also a council member for the UK Petroleum Industry Association (UKPIA) and currently sits on the board of the Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership (LowCVP) in the UK.

Roger lives in Hertfordshire, with his wife and two daughters.
