Kamal Dorabawila, Chief Investment Officer & Sector Lead – Transport & Logistics, Asia-Pacific, IFC - International Finance Corporation

Kamal Dorabawila is a Chief Investment Officer at IFC, the private sector arm of the World Bank Group, which promotes development in emerging markets. He is currently the Sector Lead for Transport & Logistics investments across the Asia-Pacific region. Prior to that he led IFC’s Power and Energy financings in South Asia and has extensive experience globally leading debt transactions as well as equity investments.

He has led the development of pioneering projects in transport, power generation, LNG, oil & gas, and waste management. These projects have often transformed these sectors and the country, in general. The first LNG project in Bangladesh, the largest private sector investment in Nepal and the first ever PPP in Afghanistan are some of the landmark projects he structured and led in the recent past. More than 15 of his transactions have received Deal of the Year awards from leading industry publications. These include the structuring or restructuring of a number of billion dollar transactions with large lender syndicates including the financing of onshore and offshore oil & gas fields in India and Ghana. His exceptional individual contributions have been recognized with a “Top 30” Corporate Award selected from management and staff across the World Bank Group.

Prior to relocating to Colombo (Sri Lanka) in 2012 where he is currently based, Mr. Dorabawila was based in Washington D.C. at IFC’s headquarters for 13 years, leading transactions across the globe in oil & gas, power and transport sectors where his last role was as Sector Lead for Oil & Gas for Africa and Asia. He is a graduate from the prestigious Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania and also has an M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from the Engineering School of the same University.
