James Cumpson, Senior Program Advisor, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada

Mr. James Cumpson is a Senior Program Advisor for Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). Mr. Cumpson’s main file is IRCC’s Facial Recognition Solution (FRS). His current key responsibility is working on the procurement process to replace IRCC’s FRS with a new solution that will contribute to a robust and Department-wide identity management framework. Mr. Cumpson also co-leads facial recognition research and development for IRCC. His work in this area is focused on identifying potential areas of improvement in regards to the current FRS, as well as monitoring biometric industry trends and risks. Prior to working on facial recognition, Mr. Cumpson worked as a Senior Investigator for IRCC’s Passport Program, where he investigated cases of identity fraud, entitlement fraud, and travel document misuse.
