I retired from banking in 2006, and soon went into local politics, being both a borough (Stevenage) and county (Hertfordshire) councillor. For Hertfordshire County Council, I have been the Executive Member for Highways and Transport for 6 years, taking political responsibilty for strategy, infrastructure development, highway maintenance and road safety, as well as local transport, including active and sustainable travel. I am also a director/trustee of Groundwork East, and a local school governor
