Introducing the Heartland Transport Strategy

TUESDAY JULY 214, 2020 11:30 (BST)

Hosted by Hosted by England’s Economic Heartland

With its globally-renowned strengths in science and technological innovation, the Heartland is a vital asset for the UK, both during its recovery from the COVID-19 crisis and in the decades that follow.

But our success cannot be taken for granted. Transforming the way we connect our people and businesses is fundamental to the region’s future.
As our experience during the pandemic has shown, there is considerable scope to increase our use of flexible and remote working; to challenge received wisdom when it comes to the future for our transport system; and to do things differently.

This step-change in approach runs through the core of England’s Economic Heartland’s Transport Strategy, which is being published for consultation on July 14 th . Join our webinar and be the first to find out how EEH will:
  • Use the need to decarbonise our transport system as the opportunity to harness innovation and deliver solutions that in themselves generate economic growth
  • Champion investment in digital infrastructure as a means of improving connectivity, particularly within our rural communities, in order to reduce the need to travel
  • Use delivery of East West Rail as the catalyst for the transformation of our strategic public transport networks , investing in those networks to connect our economic assets and communities in a shared endeavour that unlocks added value.
  • Champion increased investment in active travel and shared transport solutions to improve local connectivity
  • Ensure freight and logistic needs continue to be met whilst lowering the environmental impact of their delivery
The webinar will take place from 11am-noon on Tuesday, July 14 and includes guest panellists offering a variety of insights and perspectives.
Confirmed contributors include:
  • Greg Smith MP, Member of Parliament for Buckingham, and member of the Transport Select Committee
  • Dave Hodgson, elected mayor of Bedford, and chair of England’s Economic Heartland’s Strategic Transport Forum
