The National Metal and Materials Technology Center (MTEC) was established by the Cabinet resolution on September 16, 1986 to be a specialized agency supporting research and development in metal and materials technology. Later on December 29, 1991, it became part of the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA), Ministry of Science, Technology and Energy (the name at that time).
MTEC's mission is to develop and build capacity in materials technology for the public and private sectors, with the following main activities:
- Research, develop and create innovations in the form of joint research, research contracts with the manufacturing and service sectors or users in various sectors, and conducting research to prepare for the future.
- Transferring technology for utilization, resulting in benefits for the country in both economic and social aspects, including providing advice to solve production problems for the manufacturing and service sectors.
- Develop human resources and key scientific and technological infrastructure
MTEC's research covers everything from material technology development, design and manufacturing technology, infrastructure development necessary for national development, and research to create new knowledge from various disciplines to meet the country's important needs and enhance knowledge and capabilities to support rapid changes in technology.
