Institute of Bankers (IOB)

The Institute of Bankers in South Africa has a 110year history of service to the banking sector in South and southern Africa. In 2012 it undertook a major strategic exercise in order to create a new and improved role for an industry which has been in constant change. It was registered and accredited as the Professional Body for the Banking Sector in South Africa and expanded its focus to service the broader field of financial service professionals. Its new vision speaks to this change “to lead the development of financial services professionals with global relevance”. As part of its new role it awards designations to members who hold accredited tertiary qualifications and have experience in the sector. It now also has a continuous professional development requirement in order to keep members’ knowledge and skills current.
Members are drawn from across the broader financial services field in South Africa and also other countries in Africa.
