Simone Hirsch, Assistant Principal Curriculum Instruction, Swinburne Online University

Recipient of the 2024 Premier's Teaching Scholarship: NESA Quality Teaching, Simone is conducting a global study into current uses of AI with over 60 participants sharing how AI is used in education.

Her current roles include Assistant Principal Curriculum Instruction (across four regional and remote NSW public primary schools, including a School for Specific Purposes), Unit Coordinator at Swinburne Online University (including units; Innovation in Education, and Building and Sustaining Relationships), and HALT Assessor for NESA (supporting teacher accreditation). While these roles are not directly linked to her project, her expertise in teaching, learning, and support has shaped her focus on innovative practices for disadvantaged students.

Simone’s project includes a launch event with notable AI in Education speakers, the creation of a 20-week global Community of Practice (in collaboration with academics), and a free resource website. This work reflects her passion for supporting students with learning barriers, including socioeconomic disadvantage, Indigenous backgrounds, EAL/D, disabilities, mental health challenges, and rural and remote settings.

Simone has built a strong network of experienced educators and academics in AI in Education. She is leveraging this knowledge to advocate for inclusion, equity, and support for teachers and students worldwide.
