Paul Wood, Director, Early Learning and Primary Education, Learning and Teaching, NSW Department of Education

Dr Paul Wood is currently the Director, Early Learning and Primary Education within the Learning Improvement Division of the Department of Education. In this role he responsibility for early years and primary learning and multicultural education. Since March this year, Paul has worked as part of the Continuity of Education Taskforce, leading the curriculum support for schools through the COVID-19 pandemic. Paul has over 25 years’ experience spanning primary, secondary and special education and has been a school principal for 15 years across three school settings. Paul has also held positions as the Director, Literacy and Numeracy and the Director, Principals School Leadership. He was previously the Principal of Coogee PS, which he held for seven years prior to his corporate roles. He has also worked as both a Project Officer and Disability Programs Consultant for the Department of Education. Paul has taught in special education and student behaviour at Macquarie University and UTS. Paul has also most recently lectured in inclusive education in the MEd, BEd and MTeach programs at the University of Sydney. Paul holds a PhD in educational leadership from the University of Sydney and has a strong interest in educational leadership, equity and inclusion, evidence informed practice in education and critical thinking.
