Matthew is passionate about innovative pedagogical practices, empowering student voice to improve student learning outcomes and high quality school-based staff professional learning. His research interests include teaching and learning frameworks and 21st century competencies. Matthew is Head of Teaching and Learning at Redlands, a leading coeducational independent school in Sydney, Australia which offers both the International Baccalaureate and NSW state curriculum. Prior to that he was Director of Professional Learning at the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) where he was responsible for the regulation and policy development of mandatory professional learning for over 150 000 NSW teachers. Matthew has extensive experience leading professional teaching associations, including past president of the Professional Teachers Council of NSW and has taught in both government and independent schools. He has a MA from UNSW, Honours Degree in Social Science and a postgraduate qualification in Special Education.
