Lim Lai Cheng spearheaded an academy for professional and continuing education for working adults at one of Singapore's public universities in the last five years. Before that, Lai Cheng was Principal of Raffles Institution, the oldest school in Singapore. She has extensive experience in the Singapore Education System and played key roles in corporate communications and curriculum development at the Education Ministry’s headquarters. Lai Cheng has been involved in several nation-wide reviews on education and produced a commemorative publication for the Ministry of Education entitled, “Many Pathways, One Mission: Fifty Years of Singapore Education”.
She was one of a team of experts invited to Stockholm by the Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF) in 2016 to kick-start a long-term commitment among policymakers and entrepreneurs to boost youth employment in Asia and Europe. Lai Cheng holds a BA (Hons) and MA from Cambridge University (UK), a MEd from the Nanyang Technological University (Singapore) in Language Education and a doctorate in Education from University College London (IOE). Her area of research is technological integration in education.
Lai Cheng is a board member of the International Positive Education Network and Chairman of the Singapore Positive Education Network. She is an advisor to several foundations including the African Leadership Academy in Johannesburg, the LEAF Academy in Bratislava and Letovo School in Moscow. She was conferred the Chevalier dans L’ Ordre des Palmes Academiques by the French Government in 2012 for her key role in advancing educational collaboration and initiatives between France and Singapore.
