Elizabeth Grundy | Campus Principal
Tenby Schools Setia Eco Gardens

Elizabeth Grundy, Campus Principal, Tenby Schools Setia Eco Gardens

Elizabeth Grundy is the Campus Principal of Tenby Schools, Setia Eco Gardens, leading 130 staff and nearly 1000 international and national students on a 19-acre campus in Johor Bahru. Raised in the city of Manchester, UK, Elizabeth has had a distinguished career in education, marked by a passion for inclusive and high-quality teaching. Before moving into the educational field, she completed her Bachelor of Science in Genetics with honours at Liverpool University and pursued a 15-year career in systems analysis and project management. This unique combination of technical and educational experience has equipped her with a robust skill set for problem-solving and innovation in school leadership. Having made the decision to move into education, Elizabeth undertook a Postgraduate Certificate in Primary Education with a specialization in Science at Liverpool Hope University. She was fortunate to complete her final placement at an Ofsted Outstanding primary school in Liverpool, St. Francis de Sales, which she then joined as a newly-qualified teacher – by her own admission with very little idea of what teaching was truly about. Thanks to the inspirational leadership she experienced at that school over the next 12 years, she saw how education can change lives and learnt to put children at the heart of every educational decision she made. She also worked with the Department for Education on the development of the new National Curriculum and with Pearson International as a senior marker and team leader for National Curriculum Tests. In 2012, Elizabeth was promoted to the position of Deputy Headteacher at St. Francis de Sales and in 2015 she took on a new challenge and became Headteacher at Longmoor Community Primary School, where she provided strategic leadership and drove significant improvements in teaching standards and student outcomes. Her tenure saw the implementation of a diverse and enriching curriculum that catered to the holistic development of every student. In 2020, with her son grown up and studying overseas, Elizabeth decided it was time to go on her own adventure and fulfilled a long-term ambition to work overseas, taking up a role as Head of School at Tenby Schools, Setia Eco Park in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Here she guided the school through the Covid-19 pandemic with a vision centered on achieving the best possible outcomes for every child through a high-quality online learning offer and a safe and supportive environment. Elizabeth has recently completed her National Professional Qualification in Executive Leadership (NPQEL) and has participated in numerous training programmes over her time in education including safeguarding, financial benchmarking, curriculum development, and most recently in the field of generative AI. The Tenby Schools group is owned by ISP (International Schools Partnership) and Elizabeth has been fortunate during her time with them to have been offered a number of professional development opportunities including the Differentiated Heads Leadership Learning Programme.  In her personal time, Liz enjoys any activities to do with food, history and culture, diving, playing the piano, travelling, and hiking– all of which she has many opportunities to do in Malaysia!
