Mastering Language Skills: Blended learning and application for proficiency

  • Blended Learning is the integration of home-based learning (HBL) as a regular feature of the schooling experience in Singapore. In my case as a Chinese Language Teacher, I have to plan the learning activities in the odd week for students to learn offline and online. The challenge is to create a seamless learning experience in teaching and learning the language.
  • Applying language skills learned allows the learners to put their knowledge to practical use. And through collaborative work, learners can benefit from the diverse perspectives, experiences and linguistic abilities of their peers.
  • Through a five-week planning of HBL, students will learn offline and online the required language skills, and apply them in their collaborative work assignments. A survey was conducted to find out their learning experience with edtech tools in this blended approach to language learning.
