Nelson Theethayi, Turnkey and Rolling Stock Director, Singapore & Malaysia, Alstom

Nelson Theethayi is the Turnkey and Rolling Stock Director of Singapore and Malaysia, within the Asia Pacific region of Alstom, effective March 2021. Interfacing with customers, he leads the project and engineering teams across various geographical sites from bid phase to revenue service operations (including warranty obligations) of rail vehicles. Nelson is an experienced railway industry professional with 20 years of work experience in countries such as Sweden, Germany, United Kingdom, India, Thailand and Singapore. His experience focuses on project delivery, ensuring overall product performance, quality, reliability and safety. Nelson started his career in 2001 at the Uppsala University working for Banverket (Swedish National Rail Administration) and Bombardier Transportation (BT), mainly focusing on transient protection for the railway power infrastructure and wayside system. In 2008, Nelson joined BT as vehicle engineer before taking upon various senior roles in engineering and project management. He served as BT’s technical authority for the projects and was the engineering face towards customer and internal functions to ensure total technical integrity of the vehicles. Nelson holds degrees in area of Electrical Engineering, namely Bachelor of Engineering (1996) from the University of Mysore, India, Master of Science (2001) from the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, India, and Doctor of Philosophy (2005) from the Uppsala University, Sweden. He is a Senior Member of the Institution of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, USA. Nelson has authored about 50 articles in peer reviewed journals, books chapters and book, and received various awards during his academic tenure.
