Michael McGowan leads Arup’s Transport business across Australasia, delivering integrated transport solutions for public and private sector clients. Michael brings an established track record in the rail industry and is passionate about helping regulators and operators maximise the railway infrastructure lifecycle through design excellence and digitalisation. Working in Asia for the last 25 years, Michael has led complex rail projects through all stages of design and construction. His extensive experience spans rail modes including Metro, Light Rail and High-Speed Rail, leading design of more than 50 stations and 75km of rail tunnels, and over USD$10B in construction costs. He has played major roles on city-shaping rail projects including Jakarta MRT, Singapore’s MRT expansion and Kelana Jaya LRT. Michael is currently leading iconic transport projects including the Changi Airport Terminal 5, Singapore’s Cross Island Line, Southeast Asia’s first Integrated Train Testing Centre and Singapore’s longest transit corridor, the North-South Corridor.
