Mucemi Gakuru is a professional Electrical Engineer who holds a PhD in Engineering from Cambridge University, UK. He is an experienced entrepreneur and innovator with a demonstrated history of accomplishments and inventions in academics, transport industry and ICT. In 2004, he was the lead investigator in the development of the first ever text-to-speech system in Kiswahili.
Mucemi Gakuru is currently the Head of Commuter Rail Unit at the Ministry of Transport in Kenya where he is engaged through the World Bank as the lead expert for development of the Mass Rapid Transit System for Nairobi and Mombasa. He doubles up as the Team Leader for commuter rail projects at Kenya Railways and he recently delivered a commuter rail masterplan for the Nairobi Metropolitan Region, to open up for investments in a modern rail service.
