Angela Marano, Vice President of AI and Data Transformation, Southwest Airlines

Angela Marano is known for her unwavering commitment to improvement and innovation, which has fueled her accomplishments over the years in standing up new capabilities for Southwest Airlines.  As Vice President Artificial Intelligence & Data Transformation, Angela leads Southwest's Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Data Transformation efforts, including how the Company leverages AI and data in an effective, responsible and ethical way. Angela leads the Data Science, Automation, and Emerging Trends & Technology Teams and is responsible for Southwest's Information Governance practice.  In her time at Southwest, Angela has served as a catalyst for great transformation and built new capabilities for the business, including Continuous Improvement, Innovation and Human-centered Design efforts, Data Science, Emerging Trends & Technologies, and Automation.  Most recently, as Vice President Business Transformation, she provided executive leadership for several enterprise-wide disciplines and high-performing teams including Data Science & Automation, Emerging Trends & Technologies, and Continuous Improvement & Innovation. Angela has driven significant value across many parts of the Company, enabling transformation and modernization of the operation, Customer experience, and enterprise functions. Angela has also held leadership roles in both Technology and Corporate Strategy. Prior to landing at Southwest in 1998,  she worked for other big brands—A Apple, Nissan Motor Corporation, and JC Penney.  Building connections and contributing to the Culture of Southwest is what is most important to Angela. She has been both a participant and sponsor in the Texas Women's Foundation | Women's Leadership Institute since 2019. This has offered the opportunity to develop herself and support the growth and development of future Senior Leaders and Executives at Southwest Airlines. Equally important to Angela is ensuring Southwest Employees feel valued and seen. She serves as Executive Sponsor for an Employee resource group, Women at Southwest, to support Employees in how they show up daily, treat each other, and promote an overall inclusive environment.  Angela has a bachelor's degree in marketing from the University of Texas at Austin. She and her husband, John, have two children, Mason and Kate. The Marano family also has a very spoiled and loved pup, Tucker. Angela and John spend most weekends traveling to watch Mason and Kate play lacrosse at their respective colleges. When Angela isn't innovating at Southwest, you can find her on a pickleball court, eyeing a house to redesign, or planning a trip that involves a ride on the best airline in the world.
