Jonas Nguh, Immediate Past President, Maryland Public Health Association

Dr. Nguh is a global health scholar and practitioner. His scope of practice has been in maternal newborn and child health programs, immunization, family planning and reproductive health, nutrition, health systems strengthening, water/sanitation/hygiene, malaria, prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV, and pediatric HIV care and treatment in Sub-Saharan countries and low resource countries. Currently, he is the Immediate Past President of the Maryland Public Health Association, one of the oldest and most vibrant state affiliates of the American Public Health Association and Maryland’s leading professional organization for those working in the field of public health with a current membership of more than seven thousand members. In this role, Dr. Nguh focuses on increasing equity for Marylanders through advocacy and community collaborations. He also served as the past chair of health policy for the Men’s Health Caucus of the American Public Health Association where he oversees policy development on health issues that affect and impact boys and men. Dr. Nguh has taught and worked in more than 20 countries including Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Ghana, Haiti, India, Indonesia, Kenya, Liberia, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Mozambique, Nepal, Nigeria, Pakistan, Rwanda, Senegal, South Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda, Yemen and Zambia. Dr. Nguh is a distinguished faculty with professorships in six international universities. He teaches primarily in Public Health and Nursing programs where he chairs doctoral and master’s prepared students. Prior to the Maryland Public Health Association, Dr. Nguh served as the Executive Dean of the School of Health Professions at the University of Providence in Montana USA. He holds a PhD in Public Health, a Master of Science in Nursing, a Master of Science in Healthcare Administration, and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Dr. Nguh holds several certifications including Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executive, Fellowship of the Faculty of Nursing & Midwifery ( RCSI), Fellow of the National Academy of Practice and board certified as a Nurse Executive, Advanced by the American Nurses Credentialing Center
