Alvaro Whittembury, Regional Advisor, Immunization Advisor, Comprehensive Immunizations, PAHO

Medical doctor with a master’s degree in Epidemiology, both obtained from the National University of San Marcos, Lima, Perú. Has extensive experience in the surveillance and control of vaccine-preventable and communicable diseases; monitoring and evaluation of public health programs, with a focus on immunizations; research and teaching. Has strong commitment to teaching and fieldwork, supported by significant experience in both areas. Previously served as a public health officer and university professor at the Ministry of Health and National University of San Marcos, respectively, in Perú. Worked as an Immunization Advisor for the Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) in Ecuador from 2018 to 2023 and has been based at the PAHO/WHO Regional Headquarters in Washington, D.C., since September 2023 to the present.
