Suzanne Welten, PhD  Scientific Manager Immunology (Bacterial Vaccines) JNJ Innovative Medicine  The Netherlands Suzanne Welten, Ph.D. is a Scientific Manager Immunology working on bacterial vaccines within JNJ Innovative Medicine (Janssen Vaccines & Prevention B.V.) in Leiden, the Netherlands. Her research focuses on vaccine development against bacterial infections to fight AMR. Her team is developing animal models and immunological assays to assess immunogenicity and efficacy of ExPEC and S. aureus vaccine candidates. Suzanne is leading the preclinical discovery activities for the S. aureus project. Before joining JNJ Innovative Medicine (2021), she did a post-doc at the ETH in Zürich, Switzerland (2015-2020). She obtained her Ph.D. at the Leiden University Medical Center (Leiden, the Netherlands). Both her PhD and post-doctoral research projects focused on the adaptive immune response against Cytomegalovirus and how this virus can be used as a putative vaccine vector. She is passionate about immune evasion mechanisms of pathogens and how these can be targeted in vaccine development.
