Irene Nkumama, Malaria Programme Manager, European Vaccine Initiative (EVI)

Irene is the malaria programme manager at the European Vaccine Initiative (EVI). EVI is a leading European nonprofit Product Development Partnership (PDP), based in Heidelberg, Germany, that supports global efforts to develop effective and affordable vaccines against diseases of poverty and emerging infectious diseases. Irene serves as EVI’s malaria vaccines portfolio manager providing strategic input on malaria and vaccine development projects. Irene’s background is in malaria immunology with a PhD from Heidelberg University, Germany, and a postdoc from the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) on immune responses to a malaria vaccine and generation of monoclonal antibodies. Irene has over 10 years of experience conducting malaria research and has authored and co-authored multiple scientific articles. She is passionate about vaccine development, especially for malaria.
