Dr. Christopher Parks, Executive Director, Viral Vaccines and Design and Development Laboratory, IAVI, United States
Dr. Parks directs IAVI’s research program on the vesicular stomatitis virus (VSV) vaccine vector platform for the development of vaccines against HIV-1 and hemorrhagic fever viruses. He joined IAVI in 2007 to help expand and manage The IAVI Vaccine Design and Development Laboratory and establish the Replicating Vaccine Vector Program. Dr. Parks is also a visiting professor at the State University of New York (SUNY), Downstate Medical Center, Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology. Previously, Dr. Parks was the Senior Director of Vaccine Discovery at Wyeth Vaccine Research. He received his Ph.D. in Microbiology and Immunology from The Milton S. Hershey Medical Center (The Pennsylvania State University), and conducted his postdoctoral research at Princeton University, Department of Molecular Biology.
Dr. Parks’ career as a scientist and administrator includes over 20 years of vaccine research and development experience, publishing on a variety of viruses including measles virus, canine distemper virus, adenovirus, VSV, influenza virus, simian immunodeficiency virus (SIV), and HIV-1.
