Chris Millington, Managing Director, emporia telecom

Chris launched the emporia brand into the British and Irish markets in January 2020 shortly after he joined the business. He is a well-respected industry leader with over 25yrs of experience spanning technology, telecommunications and mobile. Chris has been quoted extensively in the quality press and market leading analyst reports on the mobile market and specifically the niche senior segment. 

Prior to his appointment at emporia Chris spent two and a half years working as a consultant in the telecommunications sector. In this advisory role he worked directly with C-suite executives of international telecommunications and software businesses on their UKI commercial and marketing strategies.

Chris previously worked as Group Director of Brand Strategy at Doro, where he also held the positions of Managing Director UKI and Regional APAC Director. He worked at the Swedish company for over a decade and helped to establish its brand globally. During his tenure he introduced the simplified mobile phone category as a viable commercial opportunity for the UK channel, mainstream retailers and network operators. Marketing was key to successfully establishing the niche proposition. Chris globally launched the first ever smartphone specifically tailored to the changing needs of the ageing consumer.

Chris is passionate about enabling seniors to use technology through various means including its simplification in order to add real and measurable benefit to the daily life of the user. He has amassed over a decade of insights into the senior segment – and understands this audience in terms of motivators, emotions and communication preferences. This niche sector knowledgebase means he is able to successfully create propositions and market to this important group. In line with this, he is highly-informed of the specialist channels for assistive technology across mobility, sight, hearing and dexterity.

He has previously held senior commercial management and business leadership positions at Oregon Scientific, Sony and Kenwood.

Chris was born in Nottingham and raised in Leeds, Yorkshire. He lives just outside of London in the Home Counties and is a very proud father to five children. In his spare time, Chris enjoys a busy family and social life. His interests include walks with his dog, rugby, Leeds United, gardening, the environment, politics and travel. Chris enjoys snow sports - he is a keen snowboarder and can confidently handle a black-run, or off-piste.

His motto for success is: “If you do not make mistakes in life - you are not trying hard enough. Do not fear making mistakes - that is how we learn. Put this into practice every day.” If Chris was to give advice to himself aged sixteen it would be: “Where you find love, you will only ever find kindness.”
