Ole Nielsen, Director, Science Computing, Geoscience Australia

Ole has had a diverse career ranging from doctoral research in mathematics to organisational transformation. He led the tsunami modelling program in Geoscience Australia following the boxing day disaster in 2005, was posted to the Australia-Indonesia Facility for Disaster Reduction in 2010 to connect disaster managers and science agencies using technology. Ole returned to Geoscience Australia to be director of scientific computing in 2013 where he led the agile and cloud transformation, developed an agency wide Digital Science Strategy and introduced DevOps in the agency. In 2017 and 2018 Ole was Deputy Chief Digital Officer and Director of Data and Analytics for the ACT government where he established the ACT Data Analytics Centre and developed an enterprise wide data analytics platform in a very short time using DevOps. Ole is now back at Geoscience to pursue his passion for people, digital transformation and science.
