Bruce Rein | Principal Staff Engineer
GCI

Bruce Rein, Principal Staff Engineer, GCI

Bruce Rein entered the industry in 1988 as an engineer for AT&T Submarine Systems installing submarine networks world-wide focusing on the shore end to end of the continental shelf.  He acted as the onboard Engineer In Charge, overseeing well over a thousand kilometers of cable burial and several thousand kilometers of surface lay cables.  He switched to the cable owner/operator side of the industry 26 years ago to join GCI, a leading regional communications service provider in Alaska.  Responsibilities at GCI include the significant expansion of connectivity throughout Alaska using both repeatered and non-powered marine and terrestrial cable systems. Recent installations include a 1300 km reaching the Aleutian port of Unalaska and a smaller 270 km cable above the Artic Circle connecting Kotzebue to Kivalina and Deering, Alaska.  Bruce is also responsible for all marine maintenance and repairs on GCI's cables and has recently been elected Chairman of the NAZ Maintenance Agreement.
