Aki Uljas, Senior Partner, Cambridge Management Consulting

Aki is a Senior Partner at Cambridge Management Consulting with responsibility for the Nordic
region. Aki also leads all of Cambridge MC’s subsea activity and is also working with data centre
activities having worked extensively in both areas of digital infrastructure.
  Aki started his career in telecommunications working as a Network Engineer/Manager, responsible for international network and peering arrangements for Finnish telecommunications provider Saunalahti Plc, now part of Elisa Plc. Aki was responsible for expanding the Finnish network to European countries, such as Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Germany, Switzerland, The Netherlands,
France, and Spain, and also to USA. This network supported Saunalahti’s corporate and wholesale
capacity customers, Internet peering services, voice transmission and termination, plus content
services offered by Saunalahti.
After being working in network engineering and management, Aki then moved into Carrier Relations
and Sales. Aki then moved to Global Crossing, where he was responsible for wholesale in Finland,
Baltic countries, and Russia & CIS, growing the business within the region an average of 50%
annually. After Global Crossing, Aki was developing international wholesale business for RETN, an
Eurasian carrier that expanded internationally.
Aki then moved into Data Centres and was responsible Telecity’s (now Equinix) sales in Finland. Aki used his network engineering and IT experience and knowledge to establish data centre network offering connectivity to both physical and virtual platform offered. Aki was a Sales Director in Tenue, when Telecity acquired the business, growing the company from having 0,6 million EUR turnover to almost 3 million EUR turnover at the time of acquisition.

After Telecity Aki founded an independent consulting company NetHub in Finland, through which Aki was responsible for Cinia’s technical and commercial development on their implementation of C-LION1 submarine cable system in the Baltic Sea and on their Arctic subsea project. With the C-
LION1 submarine cable project Aki led the site selection for the cable landing stations, cable landing station design, and network design. Aki is still working to provide advisory to Cinia’s new C-LION2 and the Far North Fiber Arctic submarine cable projects.
