Thomas is a Senior Expert for Railway Operations working at the corporate development unit for SBB’s Timetabling and Operations Department. He focuses on innovations and manages the departments international contacts. Thomas worked for SBB since he joined the company as an apprentice in 2000. He learned the basics of railway operations in a traditional traffic management career, from a supervisor on the platforms of the busy Zurich Hauptbahnhof to signaling at various posts including the iconic signaling tower in Zurich.
After moving on from traffic management, Thomas worked from 2010 to 2015 in different roles for several strategic development programs. He represented the operations department in the development project for SBB’s state-of-the-art Traffic Management System where he focused on conflict management and driving advice. Later he managed projects in the program that planned and realized SBB’s 4 Operations Control Centers and designed the new traffic management organization.
Thomas represents SBB in the UIC SFERA project since 2016. The international working group was tasked to standardize the data communication for Driver Advisory Systems (DAS).
