Peter Verlič, Chairman, South East Europe Strategic Alliance for Rail Innovation (SEESARI)

Dr. Peter Verlič is presently the Director of Slovenian Railways’ Institute of Traffic and Transport Ljubljana (Prometni institut Ljubljana) – a position he first held between 1993 and 1998 – and the Chairman of SEESARI, the South East Europe Strategic Alliance for Rail Innovation. He obtained his PhD degree in Civil Engineering in 2002. In 2000, and from 2004 to 2008, he served as the State secretary at the Ministry of Transport of Slovenia. In 2008 he was elected to the Slovenian Parliament as a member, a position he held until 2011. Overall, he has been involved in a number of projects relating to transport at both national and European level. Recently he has been working on development concepts in rail infrastructure planning and maintenance on Slovenian network (such as smart maintenance planning, infrastructure monitoring, and diagnostics), integration of public passenger transport, and on projects aiming to connect regions and improve rail services in South East Europe.

SEESARI is an initiative aimed to support rail and transport development in South East Europe with a focus on railway research, development, and innovation. The organisation has about 60 members from 15 different countries ranging from railway operators and infrastructure managers to manufacturers and suppliers of technical equipment and to research institutions and universities. SEESARI is also supported by UIC, CER, SHIFT2RAIL and other such organisations.
