Originally a biomedical scientist in the NHS, Carla spent 25 years in the UK Diagnostics industry, gaining both commercial and healthcare system experience in a variety of roles for a major global healthcare company. During this time, Carla was an active contributor in the UK laboratory diagnostics industry and professional body arena and held a number of industry wide posts including:
o Chair of the executive board of BIVDA (British In-Vitro Diagnostics Association) 2012 – 2014
o Member of the NIHR( National Institute of Heath Research) Diagnostic Evidence Cooperatives selection panel 2012-2013
o Chair of the Corporate Members Executive of the ACBLM( Association for Clinical Biochemistry and Laboratory Medicine) 2009 - 2012
o Member of both the executive and working group of Labs Are Vital UK (cross professional body Laboratory Medicine advocacy group) 2007 - 2012
Carla moved to NICE in February 2014 as Associate Director for the Diagnostics Assessment Programme, focusing in particular on raising the awareness of NICE’s diagnostics activities with external stakeholders and became Associate Director for OMA in January 2017.Carla is a Fellow of Institute of Biomedical Sciences and holds an MSc in Health Economics and Health Policy from the University of Birmingham.
