Day 1 (26th June) @ 17:30

Bridging the gap: strategies for ELN adoption in academic research

Despite widespread use in industry, Electronic Laboratory Notebooks (ELNs) have seen slower adoption in academia. Overcoming this gap presents several challenges and adoption strategies vary by institution size and interdisciplinary nature. In multi-disciplinary institutions, a “one-fits-all” solution is usually not feasible. Several solutions are either provided by central or departmental IT services, or individual labs are responsible for their own solutions. In smaller and thematically more focused research institutions, it is more feasible to establish one solution for all research labs.

In this talk, we will present insights gained from our experience at ETH Zurich, where we develop our own ELN and data management system, openBIS, and we provide this as a service to research groups at ETH Zurich and beyond. We willl share key learnings, highlighting both lab and service provider perspectives.
