Frederic Bouder, Professor Of Risk Management, University of Stavanger

Prof. Frederic Bouder has developed policy-oriented research on risk communication and risk regulation, with a strong transatlantic and comparative dimension. His interest for medicines has taken central stage in his career including in the area of vaccines and biotechnology. His research interests concentrate primarily on developing innovative and more effective models for policy, regulation and risk communication. He has been particularly interested in the crucial concepts of acceptability and tolerability in the context of decisions that fall into the grey zone of activities linked to clear benefits but where the risks are not negligible. Beyond pharmaceutical issues, Prof. Bouder has also developed and directed research on occupational safety, chemical, nuclear risks, regulatory reform and Sustainable Development. For several years, Prof. Bouder was also an Administrator in the Public Governance and Territorial Development Directorate of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), a Senior Analyst for the British Sustainable Development Commission (SDC), Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA), London, United Kingdom and a National Expert at the European Medicines Agency. He is a visiting fellow at the Institute for Advanced Sustainablity Studies (IIASS, Berlin) and Maastricht University (The Netherlands).
