Dr. Yue Zhao earned her Ph.D in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from Peking Union Medical School, China. Her graduate work discovered the NOD-like receptors(NAIPs) for recognizing cytosolic bacterial pathogens. She continued working in the innate immunity space and made several phenomenal discoveries, including the identification of the cytosolic receptor for bacterial Endotoxin and the illustration of the mechanism of pyroptosis, through the elegant work of identifying the executor protein GSDMD. After a short postdoctoral study in Genentech, she joined the Biochemical, Cellular and Pharmacology department of Genentech and is currently working on the drug discoveries in diverse therapeutic areas, including malignant Hemes, anti-fibrosis as well as targeting TMEs.
