Mark Mamula, Professor Of Medicine Rheumatology, Yale University

Dr. Mamula’s interests are in investigating the early events of tissue inflammation causing changes in the proteome.  In particular, these changes in the proteome intersect with cellular metabolism and with breaking immune tolerance to self proteins.   Simply put, Dr. Mamula examines post translational protein modifications that alter cellular biology and immunity.  Recent studies have identified early protein modifications of pancreatic beta cells that are sentinels of early disease and dysfunction of glucose metabolism and insulin release.  Other studies have also now been applied to the development of novel therapeutic approaches in for antitumor vaccines in breast cancer and colon cancer
