Kevin Henry, Research Officer, National Research Council Canada

Kevin Henry is a research officer at the National Research Council Canada and an adjunct professor in the Department of Biochemistry, Microbiology and Immunology at the University of Ottawa. Prior to joining NRC in 2014, Dr. Henry completed his BSc and PhD degrees in molecular biology and immunology at Simon Fraser University as well as a MSc degree in epidemiology at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. Much of his work addresses the molecular immunology of antibody responses and he has authored more than 30 scientific publications and patents in this area. His current research focus includes: (i) the biology and genetics of camelid heavy chain-only antibody responses, (ii) protein engineering strategies integrating in vitro display technologies with high-throughput DNA sequencing, and (ii) development of multimodal antibody therapeutics using single-domain antibodies

Mutational approaches to site-selective nanobody bioconjugation

-The small size and limited chemical diversity of nanobodies enables distinct conjugation approaches

-Repertoire analyses identify sites of conserved chemically addressable residues and potential tolerated substitutions

-Mutation of conserved chemically addressable residues permits selective functionalization of naturally-occurring or engineered reactive groups
