Jeff Rapp, Director, BFF, University of Georgia

Jeff Rapp obtained his B.S. in microbiology at the University of Notre Dame in 1986, then received a Ph.D. in biochemistry from Texas A&M University in 1993. His first postdoc was in the Herpes Branch at the CDC in Atlanta, from 1993-1995. Jeff’s second postdoc was in Lois Miller’s lab in the Genetics Department at the University of Georgia from 1995-1997. His third postdoc was in Bob Ivarie’s lab, also in the UGA Genetics Department, from 1997-1999 which led to employment as a Senior Scientist in Bob’s company, AviGenics, from 1999 to 2005. In 2005, Jeff joined the faculty at Athens Technical College, where he became program chair for Bioscience. In that role, he trained entry-level technicians for research labs and biomanufacturing facilities. In August of 2023, Jeff became the director of the Bioexpression and Fermentation Facility at the University of Georgia.   Jeff’s hobbies are automobile maintenance/repair and distance unicycling.
