Dr Wellington Sun is a first generation immigrant to the U.S. from Taiwan who has benefitted from the great public school system of New York City in the 1960’s-70’s.  Dr Sun attended Harvard and received a B.A. in physics and chemistry and then a M.D. from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences.  Dr Sun’s training in internal medicine and infectious disease led naturally to strong interest in vaccines.  His experience with vaccines includes work with several live attenuated tetravalent dengue vaccines, the conduct of human challenge studies using partially attenuated dengue virus and directing the Dept of Defense flavivirus vaccine development program; and the FDA relicensure of the respiratory Adenovirus serotypes 4 and 7 vaccines for the U.S. military.  Dr Sun’s current position as Director of the Division of Vaccines and Related Product Applications at CBER/US FDA is a wonderful opportunity for a vaccinologist.  Their Office’s purview includes all infectious disease vaccines, investigational and licensed, in the U.S. Their staff of over 80 professionals interacts on a daily basis with global vaccine manufacturers, academic investigators, U.S. NIH sponsors on a broad range of infectious disease vaccines in various phases of development.
