Patrick McCormick, Chief Information Officer, City of Cambridge

Patrick McCormick is a CIO and strategist working at the intersection of public policy, emerging technology, and innovation. Pat has over 20 years of experience working in and consulting to government organizations in the U.S. and Australia. His areas of expertise include enterprise applications, network infrastructure, internet and broadband policy, open data, digital agency and privacy, organizational change, governance, and digital transformation. Pat joined the City of Cambridge as CIO in April, 2020. As director of the City’s IT department manages an operating budget of $9.1 million, capital budget of $2 million and 34 full-time employees who provide centralized technology services across the City. Previously, as IT Capital Program Manager at the Commonwealth of Massachusetts 2017-20, Pat managed the state’s IT capital investment portfolio following a restructure to establish the cabinet level Executive Office of Technology Services and Security. From 2012-15 while working for the Public Consulting Group, Pat led development of a student data portal for the New York State Education Department. Pat’s 2017 study, The Legacy of InBloom, identified lessons from the failure of the $100M cloud based, student data store at the heart of the NYSED initiative. Between 2006 and 2012, Pat worked in a variety of IT and public policy roles in Melbourne, Australia including Program Director at the Office of Premier and Cabinet, General Manager, Online Collaboration and Citizen Engagement at the Department of Justice, Principal Policy Adviser at the State Services Authority and Senior Consultant at the Nous Group. Prior to living in Australia, Pat was CIO for the City of Somerville, MA and an IT industry professional in the Boston area.
