I have been involved in Primary Care research since 1999 developing our unit from a single investigator to our award winning team of nine staff. I mentor less experienced sites and have delivered workshops supporting staff new to research. I am the Primary Care representative for the East Midlands Clinical Research Network Industry group, plus the UK representative on Site Advocacy Groups for the Society of Clinical Research Sites. In 2017 I presented at the Partnerships in Clinical Trials Symposium in Amsterdam having acted as a guest panellist in previous years.
Last year I developed a Research Interest Group for our patients. This provides an opportunity for Sponsors and Vendors to link directly with patients for feedback on new technologies, patient materials, Protocols and patient involvement. I have a particular interest in raising research awareness and am working closely with the group to develop initiatives in this area.
I firmly believe that as most patients are treated most of the time by their family doctor, this is where research should take place if possible. Our site takes pride in a high recruitment/retention rate which is partially attributed to our close relationship with our patients.
