With domestic and international experience across higher education, banking, healthcare, and venture capital (VC) & private equity (PE), J.P. embarked on his first entrepreneurial journey by acquiring and scaling a local business in Houston, Texas. Under his leadership, the company grew from eight to over forty employees, achieving a sevenfold increase in revenue within two years with divisions in building materials distribution and real estate. As a VC-backed founder, he successfully exited the business through an acquisition. Subsequently, as Founder & CEO of Meridian Universal Health Group Inc., he secured a $5B+ capital commitment for a cross-border fund while leading the hospital infrastructure division in developing and acquiring specialized cancer hospitals in P.R. China and overseeing the corporate venture capital division in commercializing innovations from U.S. universities and hospitals.
As a civic leader with a strong record of community service locally and internationally, he previously served as President and Board Director of the U.S. China Educational, Economic, & Cultural Foundation and as a board member of other domestic and international non-profit organizations, earning him multiple awards and recognition at the city, congressional, and global levels. As a mentor of SCORE, a U.S. Small Business Administration Resource Partner, he advises startup founders and small business owners through one-on-one coaching.
J.P. holds a BBA in Finance, summa cum laude, from the University of Houston and a Master in Law (IP & Technology Focus) from the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School, receiving The Matt Parker Award for ranking first in his class. At Penn, he served as Class Co-President, Guest Lecturer for the upper-level law course Comparative Health Law Systems, and an Investment Associate at the Penn Medicine-Wharton Fund for Health, a $6M investment vehicle addressing the social determinants of health.
Beyond his academic and professional endeavors, J.P. has actively contributed to research, education, and industry thought leadership. He is a member of the Entrepreneurship Advisory Council at Rowan University, supporting the School of Innovation & Entrepreneurship through mentorship, pitch competition judging, guest lectures, and strategic planning. He has also been a Keynote Speaker for International Business at Trinity University, a Research Team Lead at the Mack Institute for Innovation Management at the Wharton School, a Keynote Lecturer for the Wharton Global Investment Competition, a Lecturer for the Career Pathways in Law Course under the Penn Vice Provost for Student Engagement, a Guest Lecturer for Business Management course at the Pratt Institute, and Professor (Honorarium) at Rowan University Department of Political Science & Economics.
Selected among the top 8% of 3,500+ emerging managers worldwide in the VC Lab Premier Accelerator Program to launch an ethical venture capital firm, he graduated from Cohort 16 (top 2%) and is also an alum of the Venture Cooperative program. He is an active member of Wharton Alumni Angels, the Angel Capital Association, the American Society of International Law, the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Institute, the Penn Club of New York, and a Level II Candidate in the Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) Program.
